Product Description

2 Timothy 4:1-4 (MSG) 1 I can't impress this on you too strongly. God is looking over your shoulder. Christ himself is the Judge, with the final say on everyone, living and dead. He is about to break into the open with his rule, 2 so proclaim the Message with intensity; keep on your watch. Challenge, warn, and urge your people. Don't ever quit. Just keep it simple. 3 You're going to find that there will be times when people will have no stomach for solid teaching, but will fill up on spiritual junk food—catchy opinions that tickle their fancy. 4 They'll turn their backs on truth and chase mirages.

Without taking a breath Paul shifts the focus from the activities of false teachers to the person of Timothy himself.

  • He says to Timothy, “But as for you…”
  • Regardless of what others may do…as for you
  • Regardless of what others may say…as for you
  • Regardless of how others may act…as for you
  • Regardless of what the world may teach…as for you

The contrast of Paul’s argument here to Timothy is that regardless of what Timothy witnesses concerning the false teaching against the Word of God he is to never fall into those traps for the sake of satisfying people.

Paul wants Timothy to know that the time is coming and is now that people will not want to hear the truth, and to avoid hearing it they will seek out those who will tell them what they want to hear and not what they need to hear.
