BACKGROUND/TEXT: We find ourselves today in the Book of Genesis. This is the book of beginnings as everything finds it’s beginnings somewhere within this book. Even as it pertained to Abram (who we know by the name Abraham), his faith in God started with his knowledge of God. Our selected text tells us that God gave Abram specific instructions and all Abram needed to do was follow them. Let me say this real quickly…God blesses obedience and when we do what He says, He blesses us for having faith in Him. Dr. A. W. Pink, in his commentary on Genesis writes, “Abram was called upon to separate himself from his home and kindred and bidden to go into a place which afterwards God would give him for an inheritance, [this] typifies the one whose citizenship is in heaven but who is still in the world, and in consequence, called upon to walk by faith and live as a stranger and pilgrim on the earth.” You see, Abram had to do something that most people have a hard time doing and that’s getting out of God’s way!   Faith doesn’t require you to operate in self; faith requires you to operate in God!   Because God is the source of faith, He’s where we must begin. Let’s look at our text:

The Call of God (verse 1). Here in verse 1, God begins to do something in the life of Abram. He tells Abram that it’s time to move from his comfort zone, and move into zone with God. There’s a lot of us who could benefit from that - stepping out and allowing God to show us just what He can do. I’ve said before that we can be so
