14And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.

The Scribes, who were the copyists of Scripture and teachers of the law, also served as the voice of tradition which placed them in opposition to Jesus who was his own voice. It did not sit well with them that Jesus did not go with the flow; therefore, the Scribes were there with a watchful and critical eye.  Mark 11:18 And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine. They were always there lurking and waiting to pounce on Jesus or his disciples.  Judging harshly!  Constantly questioning and criticizing Jesus and his followers for doing what they either could not do or did not have the courage to do.  On this occasion, they criticized Jesus’s disciples because they could not cast out the demon.  Have you noticed that people who criticize you for your inability are not able to do any better than you?

-The ones who criticize your tune usually can’t carry one.

-Most of the people who are quick to tell you what they will or won’t put up with in a relationship don’t have anyone to put up with because they are all by themselves.

If the Scribes were so concerned why didn’t they cast him out?  Why didn’t they deal with the problem?  Wouldn’t this have been an ideal time to show how they were superior to the followers of Jesus?  Might I remind you this demon did not just appear, he was not a Johnny come lately demon for he had been with this boy ever since he was little.  What I am suggesting is that opportunities had been plenteous for the Scribes to take the lead in exorcising this demon.  They could have secured the victory.  They could have seized the day.  But they didn’t.  I don’t know about you but I get tired of Christians and people who never get in the game, but always criticize from the sidelines.

Come on get in the game and let the linebacker tackle you.

Get in the ring and let Stone Cold body slam you.

Lead a song and let others criticize you.

Stop pointing your finger and lend a hand.

Let me shed a little more light on this subject that the Holy Spirit gave me.  I think instead of arguing about the failure they should have been looking for an answer.  At least the disciples had tried.  They had given it their best and failed, but they tried.  These Scribes are criticizing the disciples for trying to solve the problem.  The disciples were looking for answers, but the Scribes were looking for arguments.  Do you know anybody like that?  It’s kind of like this.  We are all riding in the same car and the car runs out of gas.  There are five of us in the car.  I get out and start to push.  Everyone else stays in and argues about who should have put the gas in the car.  Listen, the fact is we are out of gas and arguing and debating is not going to get us any gas.  So here these experts in the law are standing there questioning the disciples about their failure and in the background we see and hear the man’s son.
